Tech Week Cometh

A busy weekend, gone too soon as always.

Friday evening started with a group-o-friends visit to the open studios in the South End. There are two "floors" of studios to stroll, and a multi-level building that I didn't make it to on this trip. Then it was on to dinner in Chinatown at the Taiwan Cafe. Dinner went longer than I anticipated and I was late getting back to Somerville. With flat bike tires and no pump, I unfortunately had to skip [livejournal.com profile] tcb's party and go directly to Lou's, which was supposed to be the final destination of the night.

That was my second time eating at Taiwan Cafe. Maybe I'm ordering the wrong things, though I've had tastes of 8 or 9 dishes now. A lot of people swear by that place as one of Boston's best, and I believe them, but I haven't had much luck yet myself. Perhaps I'm just not used to their style, but most things tasted either excessively oily or just off somehow. I did like the thousand year egg. But even the fried calamari, which is one of my favorite treats, had a disappointing musky undertaste. If anyone has experience with that restaurant and can recommend their most memorable choices, I'd probably try it again.

The rest of the weekend was all theatre. Last night was a surprisingly painless cue-to-cue. The speed-through beforehand was helpful, and during the tech-y downtime [livejournal.com profile] derspatchel and I re-wrote the play in a 1950's high school setting: Windsor High and the hyjinx of Johnny Falstaff, 6th-year senior.

So, tech week. I'll roll continuously from work to dress run to bed for 3 days straight, then we open on Friday. Oh, rehearsal photos by [livejournal.com profile] missmhart. (In partial costume, no makeup or hair. You'll have to come to the show to see my quaint purple bodice.)

Re: high school rewrite? I once saw the letter-reading scene between Mistresses Ford & Page staged as a slumber party full of giggly girls. It was great fun.

Oy, I forgot I already posted link to those photos. Oh well, they're good enough to be posted twice. :-)

I don't know the Taiwan Cafe but I enjoy the food (and communal tables) at the Hong Kong Cafe.

I also like the food court on Beech Street, though I doubt it's open at night.
