It Was Pride
On Saturday
beowabbit was home sick, but not so sick that he needed nursing, so I went to watch the Pride parade and kick around the festival by myself. I would hate to miss it and I'm glad I went, guaranteed rain not withstanding.
Participating entities in the parade have changed over the years, as has the mood. This year was a rolling party, and I noticed that along with the usual groups that represent each year in the parade and festival, the number of corporate entities particpating is on the steady rise.
In some ways, I think this is wonderful. The more mainstreaming of LGBT, the better, and these companies are leading the way.
Part of me also knows that this is Marriott and BoA's way of saying "Gay is OK! kaa-ching"
Well, they're businesses, and there are parts of the country where they couldn't do this without facing boycotts. And we got to see a longer parade. As a plumbing company's truck rolled by full of stocky drag queens in silver, an older gay man near me good-naturedly quipped "Jesus Christ, is everybody gay?"
I loved it. :-)
