Between now and 8:00 PM or so, I need to get myself dolled up to go out to the New Years parties.

Many people wear skimpy sleeveless tops and tiny skirts out into the icy cold on New Years.

There must be something here on the floor that can pass as formal wear.

That's a good thought. Two things I'm no good at: interior decorating and dressing up. The former I can get away with simply not doing, but the latter is a social obligation. A default tux would make it easier.

Women of the "thin" build can often wear men's tailored tuxes. You are of the "curvy" style of woman, if I recall correctly, which would mean that you WOULD need to get the tux tailored specifically for you. But it would look freakin' AWESOME once it was.

Bulky wool socks sound "fine" to me but probably most people disagree. :-) When in doubt just dress all in black, maybe with an accessory or two, like a nice scarf. (Advice from someone who hates dressing up so take it with a grain of salt. :-) )
