Any Port In A Storm

Wow! We've got a typhoon a'raging! Kendall Square is always windy, but this is dangerous.

I was just downstairs under the awning of my office building, heading to Le Cafe Horrible because it was the only source of food I could walk to without going under the torrential open sky (no way you could use an umbrella in this). Even under the awning I got thoroughly dampened by the swirling spray. Very sad people who had to go out in the storm were standing at the end of the awning, bracing themselves.

The normally empty cafe was jam packed with people who ordinarily eat elsewhere (My lunch: heat lamp chicken fingers and a relatively safe orange). The manager was probably doing the happy dance up the basement stairs with more loaves of knock-off Wonder Bread.

If you're in town, stay safe and dry!

My lunch odyssey involved scampering across the street to take shelter in a parking garage, cutting through the Macy's building, and grabbing a burrito from the Herrera's cart that had taken refuge under the outcroppings. No heat-lamp chicken for me. I had steam-table carnitas and a hope that the hot sauce was caustic enough to sterilize the lot.

ETA: When I hit rain like this, I like to think of titanium assault umbrellas.

Yeah, I did go out to get lunch. My umbrella managed to survive, although I'm surprised the spines didn't snap in two. It kept my head dry, although my pants are still damp. Yuck.

I'm glad I brought my lunch today!

Has the Cafe Horrible improved since your earlier post? Did you give them a copy of that post?

Yum yum yum! I'll take one of those umbrellas. I'll bring it to Haymarket and take out some watermelons. :-)

I think I would faint if I ever saw one of those with my own eyes!

If I'd had to actually go out directly in it, I probably would have made do with M&Ms from the vending machine.

I had planned to, but the intarwebs keep me so glued in the mornings that before I know it its time to leave. Addict, I am.

I haven't been pro-active about that. I don't really go there except in worst-case-scenarios.

Sometimes I remember to make lunch the night before, but not always.

I heard rumor of another one, today, in Epsom, NH (east of Concord, NH)

Hoo boy. There are some days I really love the whole 'walking 1 1/2 miles to work' thing.

This is not one of those days.

I miss my walking since I broke my toes. My waistline is missing it, too!

yeah...i feel really bad for the two folks who had to come out to our office for an interview today...the first one came in totally soaked!
