Garden Geekery

I had to bend over and look very closely, and probably the neighbors thought I was barfing on my lawn, but I spotted a few teeny-weeny baby sprouts coming up where I'd planted the wildflower seeds. With the rain and the birds snacking on the seeds, I wasn't sure whether to expect any to germinate, but it looks like some have taken. I added more seed last night: Partial-Shade Mixture to the shady side, Hummingbird Mixture to the sunny side, and Northeastern Mixture on both sides. The soil is just terrible -- half gravel and street litter, really -- but wildflowers seem to grow in almost anything. I've put down roughly around 10,000 seeds, so if even 1% comes up, I'll have a veritable riot 'o color. I know it's dorky, but I can't wait to get home so I can check the sprouts again.

If you're interested, here's where I'm getting the seeds:

Nibble, Nibble Mousekin...

The rain didn't wash my wildflower seeds away. But some little creature or other has been noshing. I saw the empty shells of the mini-sunflower seeds, with the tasty insides missing.

I hope it was birds. I didn't factor in the possibility of attracting vermin of the rodential variety....
