Tightrope Sans Net

[livejournal.com profile] spwebdesign's speculations on his own death-by-rugby and its effects on the show next week causes me to admit I'd pondered the same thing about myself.

His case is different -- he's the lead and the entire show revolves around him. If he suddenly bought the farm on opening night or was otherwise unable to go on, I'm sure we would have to cancel the performance for that night. Someone else could be prepped to do the rest of the run script-in-hand, but I don't think anyone could do it last-minute without knowing the blocking.

If it were me getting dead at the same inconvenient moment, while not nearly as critical a problem, the only workable solution I can see is that [livejournal.com profile] lillibet herself would have to go on script-in-hand as Quickly. She's the only one who knows my blocking, and she could do a great imitation of me. After that, a Fairy could be pulled and fast-prepped to finish the run, but no one could memorize the role in that amount of time.

What a macabre thing to be thinking about. Oh well, blame [livejournal.com profile] spwebdesign. And stay safe, everyone!

I am thinking Jack would do it! I think at this point Jack has been... what? Five? Six characters? :)

And if anything, Jack could pantomime onstage while Elizabeth read the lines off.

I almost put Jack in that post above, but I didn't because I thought you'd say "What am I, chopped liver?" You'd do it great but then Jack would have to do Sir Hugh and we'd have 2 major characters script-in-handing.

Poor Jack never knew he'd be so busy a swing male! And he asked for the smallest part possible. I think I should put him in my novel about amateur theatre.

[livejournal.com profile] hotpoint certainly would be a VERY amusing Mrs. Quickly.

I want to see him do a one-man show of Merry Wives!

[identity profile] plumtreeblossom.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too! Lets make him do it at the cast party!

Is he on LJ?

[identity profile] lillibet.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, he's [livejournal.com profile] hotpoint.

No getting dead, or otherwise incapacitated. Nobody. Even if there's a plan, still, NO.

Repeat after me: "...nor can do more than I do with her, I thank heaven."

Now hold up your head and mince!

:-p

I'm sure he subbed in for me when I was out. He's been you. He's been Pistol, Nym, Bardolph, the Host, Robin my page, Ford … who hasn't he been???

[identity profile] plumtreeblossom.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Was he me? How'd he do?

I want to see him as Ann Page, beard and all.

I like it not when a woman hath such a great beard!

[identity profile] spwebdesign.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I think we married him off to Slender by accident, so he's unavailable to play Ann Page!

Don't think he's been me yet...

[identity profile] jmspencer.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It would hardly be the first time a lead in a T@F show went down just before the show opened. :-P

[identity profile] plumtreeblossom.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
True enough!

Are you coming? (to the show)

[identity profile] jmspencer.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Not sure.

Oh, and I just realized EXACTLY how dirty my comment sounded...

I noticed it, but sat on my hands until I could stop laughing (and the urge to make an inquisitive response without leering.) ;)

[identity profile] jmspencer.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
And, see, that's why I love you so
