Costuming

Between now and 8:00 PM or so, I need to get myself dolled up to go out to the New Years parties.

But all I want to do is wear jeans and a warm turtleneck.

The suggested look is "finery."

Are bulky wool socks that?

Many people wear skimpy sleeveless tops and tiny skirts out into the icy cold on New Years.

I have nothing in common with those people.

There must be something here on the floor that can pass as formal wear.

Why can't elves just dress me?

That's a good thought. Two things I'm no good at: interior decorating and dressing up. The former I can get away with simply not doing, but the latter is a social obligation. A default tux would make it easier.

Women of the "thin" build can often wear men's tailored tuxes. You are of the "curvy" style of woman, if I recall correctly, which would mean that you WOULD need to get the tux tailored specifically for you. But it would look freakin' AWESOME once it was.
