Metro Lulz

When this morning's Metro ran a front page headline about the first full face transplant in the US right next to a photo of MBTA General Manager Richard Davey (who is well known by name but not by sight) my first thought was "They did a fantastic job! He looks great!"

Yes, I e-mailed the Metro about it. :-)

That's hilarious. (And he's healed so quickly....)

In addition to this, I also noted how someone might dyslex the headline to read "US does 1st full faceplant" to which I would have said "Oh, this is far from the 1st..."

:-D

Heh.

Last night I actually saw a pre-surgery photo of the patient in question. There are no words. *shudder*

I saw it, too. But I think they're going to do a very good job. The technology continues to improve. I'm sorry that he lost his eyes, though. It's too bad they can't help him see the finished results.

The one who had the face transplant at BWH didn’t lose his eyes, at least not both of them. This story and a couple others mention that he got to look in a mirror four days after the operation.

PS — This timeline describing his recovery is pretty interesting.

Actually that's not the same man. The one you linked was the first partial transplant. This man is getting the first full transplant:

Different patient, sweetielove. But I'm glad the man who got the partial transplant is doing well.

Ah, oops! Reading comprehension fail. I didn’t realize Brigham and Women’s had done more than one face transplant.
