Last night at Diesel I hugged a friend. A good 10 minutes later, another friend hugged that person, and then pointed to me and said "You smell like her." Damn. Maybe I need to stop with the dragon's blood oil if I'm leaving a "Mare was here" stamp on everyone.

Dragon's blood is an ancient resin compound that smells like a mixture of patchouli, wintergreen, sex, and sweet kitchen spices. I love it because of its aromatherapy effect on me, and also because I've never known anyone in my life who wore it as a fragrance, so it's "mine."

But then, I don't want to be the Stinky Cologne Person. All commercial perfumes and colognes make me throw up a little in my mouth, and on countless occasions while obliged to breathe Drakkar or Calvin Klein Eternity for Men I've been like "Get out of my air space, Fabio."

So to that end, I'm issuing a public apology to anyone who's had to send something to the dry cleaner's because of me, and henceforth I'll wear less or none at all. I'd rather have the hugs without leaving a trail marker on all my huggees.

"You smell like her" isn't always a bad thing! For what it's worth, I've never known you to smell offensively of sweet kitchen spices. If it's yours, keep it!

I'll admit I'm glad to read that. While it is always nice to smell your Dragon's blood and have that pleasant "Oh, Mare's here!" moment, I do find it a little much sometimes. I seem to be sensitive to certain fragrance components, and sadly, something in yours does hit that. It's not terrible, or I would have said something long ago, but you'll definitely get more hugs from me with less scent :)

For my part, I don't think you should do without it entirely. It's very much a part of what makes you, you for a number of folk, it seems. [I've been wanting to devlelop a distinct scent of my own, actually, and you've been a role model in that.] But while I do enjoy it, the scent can be a little much inclose quarters.

Male Answer Mode On: Perhaps it's a simple case of exposure tolerance. You started wearing it, but over time you got so used to the smell that you needed to put on more to achieve the same level of scent. Maybe if you did stop wearing it for a week or so, you'd be able to recalibrate and be able to appreciate less of it again? /Male Answer Mode Off

Well, ok, so long as you don't go back to using that burning brand to stamp "Mare was here" on people. It doesn't bother me so much, but my ears get hurt by the shrieking cries of other lesser beings when you drive that thing into their haunches.

I don't wear perfume much these days, more out of laziness than anything. On rare occasion, I wear a little, though one thing I have started dong (still very rarely) is to put some just under my nose for *me* to smell throughout the day.

I've not yet noticed anything about how you smell, and I hate patchouli, so either you haven't been wearing it when I've been around you, the patchouli is sufficiently masked by the other components, it wears off quickly, or I'm so stuffed up that I can't smell. :-]

I can't say I've ever noticed or been bothered by it (I don't like the way sandalwood smells, either, by the way).
I've got my signiture rose scent but most people seem so HAPPY when they run into me after a time and say "you smell just like you used to!" so I figure no one's bothered by it.

I wouldn't recommend doing away with yours entirely, though. A signiture scent is nice. I would look into that soap option - that sounds nifty.

I'mnot sure if we hugged the one time we hung out, but I don't remember smelling particularly different afterwards.
