Last night found a new title holder for Best Movie I’ve Seen This Year: Vanity Fair. Beautifully detail-oriented just the way I like, the costumes alone are worth going for, most of the acting solid, and the whole film a visual kaleidoscope of the early 19th century, rich and poor and the transference between.

The rains of Ivan are cool and rejuvenating today. I realize that’s not a tasteful thing to say about a storm that has caused untold damage and misery in other parts of the country. But we often get the tail end of violent storms as they’ve withered down to mere breezes sighing rain, and from this vantage point it has its appeal.

The new job at _______ Publishers goes extraordinarily well. As each day goes by I’m increasingly astonished at my good fortune of being in the right place at the right time to find this amazing opportunity. I love the work itself but it’s not about the work – its about where it could lead. Until last week I didn’t have a title, but now I do: Editorial Administrator. 10 syllables. (beating my last title by 9 – "Temp") I have my own roomy cube again, bearing a nameplate instead of a Post-it saying "temp." I have my own customized stationary. I have health insurance, life insurance, 401K. I have people who need what I can do. Nothing matters more than that.

Daydreaming now about the trip I'm going to take, Iceland over Thanksgiving week if it all pans out. I’m in an indoor writerly mood, but the day will take me out to a production meeting this afternoon, and then the gym for my first workout in over two months. Then home again, hopefully in the same language-y mood.
