Even Extroverts Need Time To Themselves

EVEN AGNOSTICS NEED SHABBOS
It's probably the combination of the ferocious pace and pressure at work, the busy-ness of T@F, and the full social swing of autumn, but this coming weekend I am promising myself as much solo quiet time as I want. vanguardcdk left for London this morning) and I have the rare opportunity for a good amount quiet downtime to myself. I need it. (Although first I have a date with beowabbit tonight, which will be equally delightful :-). I made cheesecake for us! Then he too is leaving tomorrow for the weekend.)
You've heard me refer to my life as girbil-running-in-a-wheel. The girbil is toast, and needs a weekend on the couch reading books and watching The History Channel. I'm also giving myself permission to turn my phone over to voicemail if I wish. I have a rare opportunity for that luxury and I'm taking it. I was looking in my DayMinder at all the umpteen parties and events I have scheduled in the weeks ahead, and I want to be able to enjoy them on a fresh battery. People who observe Shabbos get to do this every week, and I've always thought the Shabbos chill-out is a very healthy and sanity-preserving tradition. This will be my chill-out, if only for one weekend.
Things I Plan To Avoid:
shopping
partying
non-essential errands
bringing work home
house cleaning or worrying about same
dealing with family drama
committing to anything I don't really want to do
Things I Probably Will Be Doing:
taking naps
paying attention to my cats
reading
more naps
I might be slightly social, if it doesn't involve leaving the neighborhood or getting dressed up. Other than that, I'm taking a weekend break. Everybody needs to sometimes, even social butterflies and extroverts like me.
