I'm back from a delightful weekend in Montreal with beloved [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit. Now I've finally gotten an actual taste of this lovely city.

We had a pleasant and politico-geeky drive up, and our hotel was a steal on Priceline. We got there a bit past midnight and conked right out. (Poor Wabbit -- he's a night owl with a morning-person girlfriend, but I think he really was tired, too). Over the next two days we explored The Village, which is Montreal's GLBT neighborhood, checked out Chinatown, went up in the Olympic Tower for a panoramic view of the city, visited the Biodome (an indoor zoo simulating 4 distinct ecosystems), did a bit of shopping and lots of eating. My sweetie bought me a beautiful cat mask from a costume shop!

On the first day I had Very Bad Luck with food in ordering things that didn't work out for me, but after that my luck changed and the rest of the meals were excellent. Especially the poutine. Oh how I love my new-found friend poutine. It is simply french fries topped with cheese curds and brown gravy (mine also had chicken in it), but it's like eating love. Devoid of all nutrients, unless "comfort" counts as a nutrient (and I think it does).

NOTE TO LOCAL CHEESE GEEKS: Does anyone know if cheese curds can be found in the Boston area?

[livejournal.com profile] beowabbit speaks French, and I enjoy hearing it roll off his tongue. I was picking up words here and there and pronouncing them wrong most of the time. But I could tell that if I spent any extended time there, I would probably pick it right up and become functional in French pretty quickly. Everybody was bi-lingual, but it was fun to try.

I had internet access on my Blackberry and [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit's laptop, but mostly I used that time to check the political sites. I'm not caught up on my f'list and probably won't get to all of it, so if you posted anything I should see, point me there. :-)
