One Tiny Ant Among Millions
Oct. 17th, 2008 11:43 amI've been giving a little bit of each paycheck to help the Obama campaign since this past spring. It's become a uplifting routine that I've come to think of as "giving Barack his allowance." He also got $47 on his 47th birthday.
After shelling out this morning, I looked at the calendar and realized that after today I have only one more payday between now and the election. It's weird to think I'm going to miss a regular outflow of cash, but I really am going to miss it. I'm nothing close to rich and in fact I struggle to stay in the middle class, but giving the small amount that I can has given me a feeling of empowerment that I hadn't experienced before. Elections always just happened without me. But this time, it feels like it can't happen without me, and people like me. The fund-raising slogan "own a piece of the campaign" really captures how I feel, and I do feel integrated and part of something monumental. Nothing political has ever meant this much to me in my entire life.
( But there's also room for teh funny... )
