plumtreeblossom: (yes we can)
Last night as I watched our brand new President Elect address us for the first time as the electee, I felt empowered as a citizen and an an American in a way I never have before in my life. In his speech, he reminded us that the real work is just beginning, and that we each will need to chip in our energy and skills in doing our parts to help improve our communities and restore health and prosperity in the United States, and to rebuild our friendships globally. It comes down, not to a government in an ivory tower but to a government on the ground and a nation on its feet. We did not just elect him, we elected us.

It's with joy that I accept his challenge. I have worked hard during the campaign, but that was only the training. I'm learning how to be a contributory and purposeful American. Looking back, I'm aware that I hardly ever volunteer for civic efforts. That will change. Change in America starts today, and as President Elect Barack Obama has taught us, we can bring it about if we do it together.

Yes we can.

I must say it's difficult being at work today, and a busy day at that. Today is like the biggest Christmas in the whole universe. Last night was Christmas Eve, and Santa sure did pay a visit, and now I want to stay home and play with my new gifts.
