For those who aren't local and wouldn't know, the one and only U2 will be playing a special promotional performance tomorrow night in my humble suburb of Somerville MA in the intimate 900-seat Somerville Theatre. No, really. It's part of a very unique 3-gig mini-tour, all of them played in small venues. No tickets are for sale -- you have to win them on the radio, and they're long gone. Here is where the plot thickens.

In addition to the main auditorium, the Somerville Theatre also has 4 small movie screens. When I got wind of this U2 visit last week it was only a rumor, and the theatre had tickets available for movies on 3 of the 4 screens on the same night as the alleged U2 concert. I bought one of those movie tickets. In theory, I will be in the same building with U2 and their mighty sound equipment, though I will certainly not be able to sneak into the main auditorium itself.

Now, if reality matches up with my clandestine plan, I hope to be able to listen to the concert from underneath the big auditorium in the little museum in the basement. They soundproofed all the screening rooms, but I bet they didn't bother with the museum space. If it works out, I might be able to listen to the concert through the auditorium's floor. If I can't hear from there, I'll damn well go stand by the stairs off the main lobby.

The only thing that could foil my plot would be if they have or will cancel the movies that night. [livejournal.com profile] ron_newman says the movie to which I hold a ticket is no longer listed on the ticket sales website. It could be sold out, or cancelled, but I'll find out when I stop by tonight.
