Sadly, [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit and I are back from New York. I say "sadly" because this particular trip was one that we wanted to have last longer than just the weekend. It was magical.

First among our delights was our hotel room, which was actually a, L-shaped suite larger than many studio apartment's I've seen. We always score nicely on Priceline.com, but this one was extra special. It had a fully appointed kitchenette with a full oven, stove, pots & pans, and dining ware. It had a living area with a sofa, comfy chairs and a flat screen TV. It had a lovely dining table. It had a pretty queen bed, and the bathroom had a real wall and door (no hipster peek-a-boo glass wall!). It was like an apartment that we owned. For one weekend, we got to feel like we lived in New York, and we loved the mellow and picturesque Murray Hill neighborhood. All this for $132 a night. Nobody ever, ever listens to me about Priceline.com, especially people of limited means like we are. Fine, you stay in a lumpy bunk in that youth hostel next to the drunken, vomiting frat boys. All the more sweet Priceline rooms for us.

It rained fairly often, but a strech of sunshine happily coincided with our trip to the Central Park Zoo. We ate ourselves silly because New York is the best eating city in the world, as far as I'm concerned. We saw the Broadway revival of Hair, which was fantastic. We met up for brunch with a friend. And my favorite part: on a whim we took a breathtaking pedicab ride across town, with the cool breeze in our hair and the Saturday night lights of Times Square in our eyes. I will never, ever forget that feeling.

With most of our trips, I'm usually ready to go home by the time we go home. This time I wasn't and I was wishing for a whole month in our little Murray Hill home away from home. Maybe some day. :-)
