RIP, Old Computer
Sep. 8th, 2010 10:06 amMy old Dell went to sleep with the fishes last night. We'd known it was on death's door already, and these last few weeks have essentially been "hospice." The writing was on the wall. It's okay, and this doesn't present a big problem. I have my little Linux laptop, and this weekend my Geek in Shining Armor is Zipcar-ing me to the computer store where I'll get a new one. I have money set aside for exactly this, so nothing unexpected is coming out of the budget. And I'll get to have 21st century things like a flat screen monitor. (For reals, I was still using a 30-pound old monster).
Somewhere in my 2004 LJ is the post I made when I bought it in the spring of that year. And even then, it was on the clearance aisle to make room for newer models, so almost certainly it was built in 2003 or maybe even 2002. And here it is, fall of 2010; it hung in there all these years, chugging along on Windows XP, survivor of viruses, cat dander and a clueless owner. I certainly think I got my money's worth. Farewell, old friend!
