plumtreeblossom: (summer)

I had to bend over and look very closely, and probably the neighbors thought I was barfing on my lawn, but I spotted a few teeny-weeny baby sprouts coming up where I'd planted the wildflower seeds. With the rain and the birds snacking on the seeds, I wasn't sure whether to expect any to germinate, but it looks like some have taken. I added more seed last night: Partial-Shade Mixture to the shady side, Hummingbird Mixture to the sunny side, and Northeastern Mixture on both sides. The soil is just terrible -- half gravel and street litter, really -- but wildflowers seem to grow in almost anything. I've put down roughly around 10,000 seeds, so if even 1% comes up, I'll have a veritable riot 'o color. I know it's dorky, but I can't wait to get home so I can check the sprouts again.

If you're interested, here's where I'm getting the seeds:

That wouldn't be a big surprise, considering the numerous photo-essays there are on the net on the subject of "[livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom barfing on lawn."

Speaking of barfing on lawns, I'm having a party tomorrow night. Hope you and your boy can make it. There will be dancing *tempt*tempt*

The boy wouldn't dance if you paid him in gold dubloons, but I'd like to make it if I have enough energy. I have a big day on Saturday what with Pride and all, but if I can make it over for a while, I shall!

I've been contemplating starting a window garden. Gotta get [livejournal.com profile] kissoflife's book on that...

I think that is so cool that you planted all those flower seeds.
Good for you for trying to make the world more beautiful!
I hope the vast majority of them not only sprout but blossom into the veritable riot 'o color you desire.
You go, girl!

Thanks so much! My yard is tiny and is so patchy that it looked atrocious. A few weekends ago I was at the Boston Earthfest and one of the tables was giving away packets of seeds. That's what gave me the idea to do this. I planted those and then went nuts ordering more (3 pounds in all). It's so much fun watching them spring to life and wondering what kinds of wildflowers will come up!

Yay!

Mais bien sûr!

I also just ordered a bunch for myself. Now we’ll see if I ever actually make the time to go out and plant them! Since I haven’t managed to find time to mow the lawn yet this summer, I’m dubious, but we’ll see. Maybe you can come keep me company while I plant.

*Smooch.*

Hey, he danced at my shindig! But then, I'm the exception to so many rules. :)

most wildflower seeds you don't actually have to "plant" so much as just "toss" them into the backyard.

Oooooooooooooo! I'd love to help you! If you haven't already done it by the next time I sleep out there, I'll definitely keep you company. :-)

Well, by tomorrow, I meant tomorrow from today, not tomorrow from yesterday. That's the problem I run into from my brain living partly in the future all the time.
So yes, tomorrow from now - as in to say "Saturday".
