You can use any chocolate cake recipe you want, or a mix. To make it mocha, I dissolved about 10 teaspoons of instant coffee in a few tablespoons of warm water and added it to the batter. You can also use powdered espresso. The frosting is vanilla frosting with the same instant coffee concentrate added. But if you love chocolate you can mocha-ize chocolate frosting, too!
So these are actual caffeinated cupcakes! I brought then to a party where people were going to be staying up late. Hope it helped!
