First Ten Years
Dec. 10th, 2004 09:40 amIn the rush of November with Murder performances and my trip to Edinburgh, I completely forgot to mark that November was my 10-year anniversary of moving to Boston. Two days before Thanksgiving, whatever day that was in 1994.
I will always have Peter to thank for being my bridge out of Rochester, NY and its dying economy. I was 30 years old and still working as a barista (it was just called “counter girl” then) at Java Joe’s. I had no computer skills and knew no one with a computer, and on $4 an hour I had no means of upgrading my worth on the job market. What would my life be like now, had I stayed? My God, I can hardly stand to speculate.
Peter, who had moved to Boston the month before, came back down to Rochester and we loaded my life into his old panel truck. It was both exciting and terrifying, having always dreamed of living in a large city but knowing nothing of how to live a large city life.
It would be impossible to recount a decade in an LJ post, but here I am, 10 years later with an amazing 10-year journey behind me and a new one just beginning. Here’s to the next 10 years! :-)
