Last night I woke up at 1:00 AM, stepped out onto the balcony, and found myself face to face with a raccoon. It was very big and very busy with a bag of garbage that I shouldn't have left out there. I'm sure we were both aghast. Raccoons are slow moving; they don't scramble away in a flash like squirrels do. It just stood there while I did the scrambling back into the house. It's a shame they're dangerous. They're so pretty. I grabbed a flashlight and shined it through the screen. Then it was gone. Now I know who's been digging in my tomato plant pot.
