I can very strongly recommend The Aviator if you have a chance to see it. Being as the is a capsule, I’ll limit my praise to an outstanding script, a beautiful return for DiCaprio to the madman character roles he does best (we hereby forgive him for The Titanic), and a Cate Blanchett so richly morphed into Kate Hepburn that you forget who you’re watching. There was a lot I didn’t know about aviation history and even more I didn’t know about the life of Howard Hughes. This movie can inhale you and breathe you out two hours later wondering about the madly coiling paths meandering through the mind of a genius.
A late-dawning thought – I’d like to do something special for Academy Awards Night (2/27), which I don’t always pay attention to unless there are at least two movies I loved in contention. This year there was Ray, and now this. My teensy 14" TV would be no help to that end, though. I’ll have to investigate alternate possibilities.
