Cabaret Sing-thru

Last night was the first rehearsal for the cabaret which goes up for one weekend December 2nd and 3rd. I love the songs that were chosen -- good old show tunes, some which I haven't heard in years, and a few I'd never heard before at all. I am so glad we don't have to do a company number. Just a string of soloists. (Not that I wouldn't like to sing together with these amazing peeps, but I find company numbers unbearably corny in cabarets). I have two numbers, and I won't spoil and say which, but one is a belters dream (and a pianist's nightmare), and the other is too adorable to speak its name.
Can I just say, three cheers for accompanists? Our guy, Brandan, was incredibly patient and is extremely talented on the keys. I think it takes a certain personality type to be able to do what they do -- to both listen and perform at the same time while also keeping the "paperwork" of the sheet music in order, and I wish they got more limelight than they do. I feel guilty about my sheet music for one of my songs; because of the wacky structure of the song, the sheet music is about 12 pages long and a hell's maze of codas and jumps. We had to stop at every page to figure out where it was going next. But he seems confident that it can be worked out, and I'm meeting with him on Sunday.
