...and they were lined up around the block at Loews Harvard Square for the preview screening. But Bless the Jess, she showed up at 5:00 PM and made sure the people behind her didn't mind if she had a friend coming (they had friends coming too). So in we went.
It was wonderful. I hadn't established a pre-viewing bias one way or the other. I've seen Rent on Broadway, and I enjoyed it but it didn't floor me. This did. Brilliant editing took the awkwardness of most modern movie musicals out of it. It's very rare that I'm brought to tears by a movie. It has to be something much stronger than a lost love or a child dying. This did it.
No spoilers. If you don't like musicals, you won't like this. But if you do, make a point to go.
Theatre Geek Corner - I'm just now realizing that I was in a play (Godspell) with Taye Digg's mother back in Rochester in the 80s. I never made the connection until just now.
