The first read-thru for You Can't Take It With You was a lot more fun than I expected. Not that I anticipated otherwise, but I never actually gave that play proper credit. It really is funny, even on a read-thru. Even the 1930's humor still resonates and hasn't become quaint, as vintage humor is wont to do.
I gots me a fun character. I'm wondering if this is finally the role for which I can justify buying those character shoes at Teddy's that I've been eyeing every time I go there. The past 4 shows I've had to wear ballet slippers because of the noise factor of the hollow wooden thrust, and characters like MQ were too physical for the shoes. But The Dutchess is probably going to be rather stiff, and the clomp clomp would actually be a perfect addition to the character, since she doesn't do a lot of running around. Hmmm, shall see.

abbiethecat and his domestic help afterwards made for a great beginning to the rehearsal run. I'm so glad I have this. It's a bright little break a few times a week from the stress of the work problem.
