WHO'S AFRAID OF

My first sighting of Frank O. Gehry's architectural contribution to MIT was like reading Dr. Seuss on very bad acid. But as with all things freaky and just not right, I eventually grew comfortable around it.

I like it. Well, I like parts of it. It's theme park architecture, really, bold and bursty-outy and off-kilter and using angles what don't make sense. Most of all, it's an acquired taste. Yeah, theme park architecture. At least, it's what theme park architecture should aspire to.

It should also be noted that I am a theme park fan and that I much prefer the Stata Center to the Tetris Game Gone Horribly Awry that is Simmons Hall.

I agree, it does have a brazen beauty to it, the way it defies architectural logic with a humorous streak.
