Taking It Anyway
May. 14th, 2006 02:59 pmWow.
And to think I almost didn't audition.
The biblical floodwaters this weekend failed to drown the Sycamore household, and the show closed to a standing-room-only audience. It was a fitting sort of ending. This one was special, and I use that word in the byest possible way. Ordinarily I take a day or two to digest a show and all that orbited it before writing about it, but as it is I have mere hours to come up for a single gasp of air before diving back under for the one-act festival. By this time next week my play will already be cast. Yes, I'm crazy, but in that maniacally laughing Russian way.
The Dutchess' rhinestone bling is tucked back in my jewelry drawer. I have no idea when it will see the light of day/night again, but there's a whole lot I'll take with me from this show. Accent coaching, sitting (im)modestly, paper-n-foam blintzes, real blintzes, butt slapping, 80s dancing at Jack's, spitting, puppy piles, boys in funderwear, Tex-Mex & 'ritas, applause, shiny castmates, and the magic of company cohesion. I'll not shmoop because it would make me melancholy, but thank you to everyone just for being who you are. Or should I say...
I luf you guys.
In its synergy, this show reminded me of our very first production, more than 2 years and 8 shows ago now. If you want, you can read what it was like at the very beginning, when This Thing Of Ours was just a baby and I didn't know most of you yet. So glad I do now.
Until we meet again,
Olga Katrina
