Cleaning of the house was solidly on the slate for Saturday morning and afternoon. No, really. Problem was, it was necessary to think it through with care, and that required drinking coffee on the balcony, and bringing a book with me. Then the interweb needed to be checked, also thoroughly. I had to have a bubble bath, of course, and then it was time to bake garlic cheese bread. You can't grate cheese, dance around to Postal Service, and clean the house at the same time, so I only picked two.

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lifecollage & [livejournal.com profile] mangosteen for the wonderful party last night. I got to chat with people I don't see often, and got to visit their lovely house for the first time. Thanks also to [livejournal.com profile] imlad and [livejournal.com profile] dietrich, who let [livejournal.com profile] pheromone and me ride along with them.

This morning was a brunch of girltalk with the beautiful [livejournal.com profile] n0ire. 400 Highland, brunch... not so much. Their brunch menu is tiny and uninspired at this time, though that may change eventually. (I hear good things about their dinners). But the real pleasure was getting to spend time really conversing with [livejournal.com profile] n0ire about deeper things. We're due for a wine outing and more conversation soon.

Theatre@First has made itself my boyfriend. The Steering Committee meeting was productive and ran longer than usual. I have minutes to type up. We needed ice cream then and got to J.P. Licks just before the thunderstorm blew in. But where better to ride out a storm than an ice cream parlor? I had a hot fudge sundae and called it dinner.

And on to my query:

I'm looking for a song to play during the set change before my one-act in the festival. I'm trying to come up with (and soliciting suggestions for) songs about, um, being psychic. Yeah, I know, billions of those to choose from. But someone has to have written a song along the theme of "I can read your mind," or "I know what you're thinking," or "I know the future." It can also be 2nd person or 3rd person, definitely. Can you think of any?

There's a dance mix to that? Egads. Makes me think of the Dead Milkmen lyric "You'll dance to anything...."

There's a song from "A Star Is Born" that I recall has something to do with that. Also, a Shirley Bassey...lyrics to follow:

Can you read my mind? Do you know what it is you do to me? Don't know who you are Just a friend from another star Here I am Like a kid at the school Holding hands With a god(??) I'm a fool Will you look at me, quivering, Like a little girl, shivering You can see right through me Can you read my mind? Can you picture the things I'm thinking of? Wondering why you are All the wonderful things you are You can fly You belong to the sky You and I Could belong to each other If you need a friend I'm the one to fly to If you need To be loved Here I am Read my mind Will you look at me, quivering Like a little girl, shivering You can see right through me If you need a friend I'm the one to fly to If you need To be loved Here I am Read my mind

Also a song:
BRIAN McKNIGHT LYRICS

"Can You Read My Mind"

When I'm all alone at night
I can hear the beating of your heart
I should tell you and I might
Before you tear me apart
You're all I ever think about
All I ever dream about
Can you read my mind?
Can you read my mind?

Oh when I look at you
I probably should go
Cause I wanna be with you
More than you'll ever know
Hmm for a taste of you
I could calm my desire
Baby you blow my mind
You light my fire, oh

I want you (yeah)
Need you (yeah)
Can't live without you

When I'm all alone at night
I can hear the beating of your heart
I should tell you and I might
Before you tear me apart
You're all I ever think about
All I ever dream about
Can you read my mind?
Can you read my mind?

Is it the way I feel?
The curiosity or the things you do
That brings out the lust in me
The thought of me and you, drives me wild
Come close to me
Can you stay awhile?

Hold you, need you
Can't live without you

When I'm all alone at night
I can hear the beating of your heart
I should tell you and I might
Before you tear me apart
You're all I ever think about
All I ever dream about
Can you read my mind?
Can you read my mind?
When I'm all alone at night
I can hear the beating of your heart
I should tell you and I might
Before you tear me apart
You're all I ever think about
All I ever dream about
Can you read my mind?
Can you read my mind?

Yeah
Hold you, need you
Can't live without you

When I'm all alone at night
I can hear the beating of your heart
I should tell you and I might
Before you tear me apart
You're all I ever think about
All I ever dream about
Can you read my mind?
Can you read my mind?

How strange, I also posted a Shirley Bassey song (which I actually remembered, as opposed to just looking up):
Can you read my mind?
Do you know what it is you do to me?
Don't know who you are
Just a friend from another star
Here I am
Like a kid at the school
Holding hands
With a god(??) I'm a fool
Will you look at me, quivering,
Like a little girl, shivering
You can see right through me
Can you read my mind?
Can you picture the things I'm thinking of?
Wondering why you are
All the wonderful things you are
You can fly
You belong to the sky
You and I
Could belong to each other
If you need a friend
I'm the one to fly to
If you need
To be loved
Here I am
Read my mind
Will you look at me, quivering
Like a little girl, shivering
You can see right through me
If you need a friend
I'm the one to fly to
If you need
To be loved
Here I am
Read my mind

I would have to, er, third "Eye in the Sky". The lyrics even say "part of me knows what you're thinkin'" and "I can read your mind". Many people should be familiar with it and my intuition is it would set the tone for your one-act well.

I love "If You Could Read My Mind", but suspect it's too wistful for your purpose.

"You Think You Know Her" - Cause & Effect (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=A262A2F0124EAFE9) (though it might be kind of synthy-silly)

Smash Mouth, I shoulda thought of that! They're always there when you need them for something soundtrack-able. That's got the fun uptempo I want.

I wished I could help but I can't think of anything. Every song I think of is about dreaming and not about being pyschic. If you come up with some songs post them I'd like to know what you chose.

this might not be exactly what you're looking for, but it was the first thing I thought of--great song.

Somewhere Down the Crazy River
Robbie Robertson

Yea, I can see it now
The distant red neon shivered in the heat
I was feeling like a stranger in a strange land
You know where people play games with the night
God, it was too hot to sleep
I followed the sound of a jukebox coming from a levee
All of a sudden I could hear somebody whistling
From right behind me
I turned around and she said
"Why do you always end up down at Nick's Cafe?"
I said "I don't know, the wind just kind of pushed me this way."
She said "Hang the rich."

Catch the blue train
To places never been before
Look for me
Somewhere down the crazy river
Somewhere down the crazy river
Catch the blue train
All the way to Kokomo
You can find me
Somewhere down the crazy river
Somewhere down the crazy river

Take a picture of this
The fields are empty, abandoned '59 Chevy
Laying in the back seat listening to Little Willie John
Yea, that's when time stood still
You know, I think I'm gonna go down to Madam X
And let her read my mind

She said "That Voodoo stuff don't do nothing for me."

I'm a man with a clear destination
I'm a man with a broad imagination
You fog the mind, you stir the soul
I can't find, ... no control

Catch the blue train
To places never been before
Look for me
Somewhere down the crazy river
Somewhere down the crazy river
Catch the blue train
All the way to Kokomo
You can find me
Somewhere down the crazy river
Somewhere down the crazy river

Wait, did you hear that
Oh this is sure stirring up some ghosts for me
She said "There's one thing you've got to learn
Is not to be afraid of it."
I said "No, I like it, I like it, it's good."
She said "You like it now
But you'll learn to love is later."

I been spellbound - falling in trances
I been spellbound - falling in trances
You give me shivers - chills and fever
I been spellbound - somewhere down the crazy river

Apparently the Doobie Brothers have a song "I Can Read Your Mind", though I've never heard it.
