Alright then. Do not have your blood pressure checked after 3 cups of strong coffee and no breakfast. That was a marvelous lack of foresight on my part. Scared my poor nurse-practitioner half to death, since I've never had a read that wasn't perfect or near-perfect. She's making me come back another day properly fed and not caffed-out.

Almost all of my life I've allowed myself to drink coffee until I levitate. 3 cups in the morning before work is standard for me, plus a big wailing tankard-full once I get to work. I mean yeah, I knew being a caffeinated human superball for half of every day couldn't be particularly good for me. But I really didn't think it was doing that. I'm not an absolutist type of person inclined to banning substances completely from my life, but it's time to set some limits. 2 cups a day, I think, and maybe alternating cups with healthy herb tea.

I use the icon of my hero/crush-boy to remind me that while over-indulgence can stack up some consequences, life is about saying "yes" to as much pleasure as you can without dying.

HAHAHAHAHA

Well, at least you're safe from diabetes.

(My personal fear is that if you put processed sugar in your coffee, which I do, it just cancels out the effect.

heh, yeah. i've been trying to cut back for some time now. i've gotten very accustomed to tea, and these days, i frequently prefer it to coffee. but then, sometimes, i just want a cup so strong you can take a big bite out of it. tea just doesn't do that.

Coffee is one of my true loves. However, coffee doesn't necessarily feel the same way about me.
One of the things that came out when my arm pains started was that caffeine contributes to muscle inflammation. Since I'm trying to work that down, I had to cut the coffee significantly. Now I am down to two cups a day - one for the drive to work, and one for the drive home. Elsewise, I'm having herbal tea or decaf coffee. It has worked out well.

I met you over the weekend; I know because you told me your lj name, but I do not remember who you are. I was the dark fairy.

I was the guy with bells on.
At previous parties, I was the guy with the nice dress coat, tie, and hose, or the guy done up as a devil.
Ah, now to go back-read your journal...

I suggest cutting back slowly to ease the withdrawal. If you are used to 3 cups and a tankard full, maybe start by cutting down to 2 cups and a tankard full for a week, then maybe 2 cups plus 1/2 a tankard full, maybe?

Very good advice. It is not a good idea to quit caffeine cold turkey. It enjoys taking revenge on you after such a breakup.

I am heartened to hear you're not dropping the stuff 100%. Cutting back the caffeine from "refill the Large styrofoam cup whenever I feel like it" to "have one Medium cup in the morning and one in the afternoon" has helped drop my stress levels and kept my stomach from mounting a churning revolt. I still require it to, y'know, look like I'm still alive, but I don't need it too much.

(Ah, Bourdain. He's lived quite a bit of life, hasn't he?)

Naw, I'm not giving nuffin up completely. Moderation is the key. I have no food allergies or intolerances, am omnivorous and hedonistic about fine dining and wines and such, but that doesn't mean I'm allowed to give myself high blood pressure from too much coffee. Less is more, and I promise to buy myself the very best coffee available.

FYI, I'm quoting the last line of this entry, just because I think it's brilliant, and right along my line of thinking today.

Missed reading your LJ in my absence. :)
