Something So Right
Jun. 28th, 2004 11:28 amNow that I'm bright-eyed and bushy-tailed... about that aforementioned perfect day:
The morning (if noon is to be playing the role of "morning") began with a fabric shopping trip to Burlington with Benjamin, who is a marvelously fun shopping companion. I love how he joins right in even if the errand isn’t his. He picked out the perfect black and white poly-crepe fabric I’d been envisioning, while I dug through the pattern files for the hottie dresses to be worn by
beana_1977 and me in Philip Glass. He’s a pro-active shopper, and a happy speed demon with a shopping cart.
After scoring some vegetarian Indian take-out yummies for lunch, we were heading to the car when we passed what looked like an ordinary 2nd hand clothing store. Ordinary, that is, until Benjamin spotted a handwritten sign saying "Free Clothes." It wasn’t a joke. The store was going out of business that day, with the owners happily expecting a new baby, and they were giving away the remainder of the store’s inventory. We dove in. I got several business-y jackets (a most welcome find, since I hate spending money on work clothes) and a beautiful African print dress that I may make into pillows. He got a cool black jacket and several other nice items. Right place + right time = Huzzah.
We made it to the Theatre@First set painting work day about half way through it, and got painty with the gang. It’s great to finally have the 6 casts mingling in wait of the merger this coming Wednesday. Tech Director
muffyjo runs a tight ship, and the flats, along with our clothing, were pumpkin orange in no time. I’m really excited that we’ll have this new thrust for the stage, which we’ll be able to use for subsequent shows. Watching our little theatre company grow and evolve has been one of the joys of my life this year.
The paintfest was followed by delightful conversation and coffee with cast-mate and new friend
scholargipsy, who is about to embark on a Japanese adventure in my own beloved Nihon. Here is someone I really and truly should have met sooner. The catalogue of things we have in common is astonishing, and I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if we discover even more. He is a beautiful person inside and out.
Day rolled into evening and rounded out in JP, at the CD release party for dear Premananda, who I haven’t seen in too long. I did back-up singing on three tracks of the album back in February, and with the final mix mastery complete, the whole thing sounds jazzy cool and wonderful. Many friends, both musicians and techies, worked together to conjure the magic, and it was great seeing everyone together in one place for the first time since the project began. Riding home with m’boy Toddy and prodding him for info (like the little sister I am) about his suddenly interesting love life, I remarked on what a lovely and healing surprise this entire day had been.
Thinking about it again just a bit later, enjoying a glass of merlot on my balcony under the warm night sky, I had to amend that. It was the best day so far of 2004. What dear and kindred souls my life is blessed with.
May the circle be unbroken.
