Last night saw another farewell dinner for Benjamin, this one organized by Dan at The Elephant Walk in Cambridge.

Saying goodbye didn't feel the same as it usually does whenever a friend moves away permanently. Usually I know, deep down, that regardless of what either of us are thinking at the moment, we will never see each other again in this life. I'd imagined I'd get all teary-eyed, but it just wasn't like that. It felt very much the way saying goodbye after a family visit feels; knowing they're there whether you can see them or not, a presence that doesn't need to be present to be sensed. It felt like a "See you next Tuesday" kind of goodbye.

And so, here's to Tuesday, whenever it may come.
