Surprise! Not.
Jan. 27th, 2006 10:39 amThe surprise party got a surprise.
The birthday boy's girlfriend worked for weeks, planning and scheming with his roommates as she organized a beautiful unicorn-themed birthday bash for her beloved boy at his house. What she didn't know was that he had taken the day off from work, thus being there when she snuck into New Neighborhood with armloads of decorations and goodies.
I don't know which of them felt worse. She said she cried. He probably felt awful too, though of course it was no one's fault, these things just happen. And in spite of the surprise element removal, it was a lovely party enjoyed by everyone. There were unicorns everywhere, a houseful of friends, a sundae bar and snacks, a unicorn-shaped cake made by Emily herself, and plenty of wine and laughter. The unicorn thing might have seemed odd for a man, but if you know Lou, it just worked. The night was a happy success, and I think he should marry that girl. Happy Birthday Lou!

Now waffling about tonight. Another birthday party, and also a dinner invite. But...it's cold. Arctic, liquid-nitrogen cold. We shall see...
