One Down

Well, that was the first weekend of the festival. I'm so proud of my cast, and of other people's casts! They've been putting in bits that come naturally, and even on a sweltering day like today it was a wonderful performance.

This is the first time I've ever experienced an emotion akin to "proud mommy." Once or twice now I have unconsciously referenced my cast as "my kids," which is an unexpected thing to pop out of my child-free mouth. And they're certainly not kids -- they're damn talented big ol' grown-up artists. But today I was just sitting there beaming (and mouthing the words along with them, as [livejournal.com profile] wellstar observed).

Today I've been having the nicest e-mail conversation with Mark Harvey Levine, the author of my play. Such a mensch. Really, he is the nicest guy, at least in e-mail. We'd gotten acquainted that way last year too, before the previous one-acts. He lives out in Pasadena. I'll be in LA next month -- wonder if that's too far that I couldn't invite him to get together for lunch?

I'm sending him a package with the program and some performance shots of Surprise, though I can't get to the photos due to server downage, I think. I'll try again later.
