Well, that was the first weekend of the festival. I'm so proud of my cast, and of other people's casts! They've been putting in bits that come naturally, and even on a sweltering day like today it was a wonderful performance.
This is the first time I've ever experienced an emotion akin to "proud mommy." Once or twice now I have unconsciously referenced my cast as "my kids," which is an unexpected thing to pop out of my child-free mouth. And they're certainly not kids -- they're damn talented big ol' grown-up artists. But today I was just sitting there beaming (and mouthing the words along with them, as
wellstar observed).
Today I've been having the nicest e-mail conversation with Mark Harvey Levine, the author of my play. Such a mensch. Really, he is the nicest guy, at least in e-mail. We'd gotten acquainted that way last year too, before the previous one-acts. He lives out in Pasadena. I'll be in LA next month -- wonder if that's too far that I couldn't invite him to get together for lunch?
I'm sending him a package with the program and some performance shots of Surprise, though I can't get to the photos due to server downage, I think. I'll try again later.
