plumtreeblossom: (WTF?)
First, thank you all SO much for all of the good wishes and words of support yesterday about my sick Rowley. You are all wonderful friends. And very special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit and [livejournal.com profile] vanguardcdk for their help. I have the best boyfriend and best housemate in the world.

We did take Rowley in to Angell Memorial last night to be seen by a vet. The trip was very frightening for him, and to me as well, but our beloved [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit worked hard to keep me calm and secure. Poor Rowley wailed with fear all the way there, but the visit went better than expected.

Angel Memorial's service was excellent in every regard. We checked in, and in 10 minutes we were in an examination room with an attentive and caring vet. Given Rowley's usually willful attitude, I was quite sure he would try to bolt, and I told her so. But to my surprise, she got him out and he was exceptionally well-behaved. He was bug-eyed, but no hissing, no scratching, no bolting. I was so proud of my good boy.

She examined him and had blood/urine taken. She found nothing obviously wrong with him other than the usual physical changes that any geriatric cat experiences. That really helped calm me. She was fabulous. Rowley didn't fight going back in his crate. We picked up the two prescriptions she wrote for him and checked out. The whole process didn't take more than a half an hour. Angell Memorial = 5-stars.

She called this afternoon with the bloodwork results. It was mostly unremarkable, but he did have a somewhat elevated white blood cell count. This means that he has, or had, some sort of infection. We're in the wait-and-watch stage now, and he seemed to be doing well this morning. At best, his system will fight it off. Otherwise, we'll keep working on it.

[livejournal.com profile] vanguardcdk reports that poor Banjamin cried piteously the whole time we and Rowley were gone. But the two best friends are reunited, at home where they belong. Here's hoping Rowley's system wipes out whatever bug he's fighting. He's a demanding Siamese who is used to getting what he wants. I'm sure he just wants to feel like his old self again.

The birthday of [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit swiftly approaches once again! Last year I got together with about a dozen friends of ours and his and got him a Utilikilt, and he loved the group gesture so much that I'm doing it again this year.

His heart's desire this year, other than to be with friends and family, is a Canon Powershot S5 IS. He loves taking pictures and this camera offers just what he'd like.

Note: this is not a secret gift. He picked out the camera (with much badgering from me) himself, and I'm keeping this post public so that people on his f'lift but not mine can get to it. However, I will screen all comments so he can be surprised by the collaborators list. :-)

If you're a friend of [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit and would like to be a part of this group gift, I've set up a Paypal fund. If you don't do Paypal, talk to me and we'll figure out something else.

Yay for The Wabbit's 42nd natal aniversary!
