Words Came Out

I just spent the last several hours writing the 1st draft of a 10-minute play (actually about 6 minutes; it needs fleshing). It's been a long time since I've done any creative writing, but the play chose this day to be written, and I'm not going to argue when that happens. It's just the light, upbeat comedy fare of the sort we often serve up at T@F, but that's exactly what I wanted to write. It was fun and interestingly helpful to give the characters the bodies and voices of various Firsties as I wrote. You guys did great!
I'm just surprised that I focused on one thing for that long. Over the years I've given myself a sort of multi-tasking ADD, and I'd forgotten what it felt like to be zeroed in on one specific creative activity for multi-hour stretches. So focused that I didn't even want to take hits off the interwebs crack pipe. I just had an idea that I thought should be a short play, and now it is one. Well, in 1st draft form. In a few days I'll read it again and see if I think it's worth polishing up. Reading over it now, I suspect I'll decide it is.
