Planet Gazing

srakkt had a small group of us over for a telescope gathering. You might think this isn't something you can do in the middle of the light-polluted city, but you can and we did. Several of us had Galileoscopes, which are small 'scopes that replicate the view from Galileo's original telescope.
beowabbit brought along his more powerful big telescope. Our main focus was to look at Saturn and its rings, which we did, and it was beautiful. We also got to see Mars and a stunning view of the moon. We had set up our 'scopes on the sidewalk, and people walking or biking by sometimes stopped to have a look. It was such a simple thing to do but so much geeky fun, and I hope we can do it again sometime.
