Shopping Report
Feb. 21st, 2011 10:22 amMy wuzzle drove me to Dressbarn in Everett yesterday on my quest for professional wardrobe items (specifically, blazers) in colors other than black or gray. The black and gray default preference is a carry-over from my goth years, and while it translates beautifully to professional wear, it's basically all I wear at work, and I can only imagine my colleagues are sick of my monochrome wardrobe. I know I am, and I wanted some color.
Dressbarn (yes, I'm spelling it right) used to be my go-to place for professional wear, especially before their Porter Square location closed. I would often drop in and gasp at the gorgeous tailored suits, sometimes buying. I guess things have changed. I don't know when they went from being a purveyor of sharp career wear to Garish-Muumuu-Tops-R-Us. Who wears that shit to work? And sparkly garments; New Years Eve is not in February, in my book. Good thing I wasn't there looking for a suit. I noticed only one mix & match jacket and skirt pair, in a textured gray, and I already have one almost exactly like it.

beowabbit is an excellent shopping boyfriend. He carried my coat (actually, his coat bequeathed to me) and gave honest opinions. I was able to extract and buy two nice blazers from the cruft: one a muted purple with funky, large grommets in place of buttons, and the other a red blazer with black accents and a fox hunt feel. Still, I went in prepared to shell out for six or seven blazers, and they just weren't there. I don't know where tasteful, affordable business clothes for women are hiding, but I'd like to find them.
