I didn't get a chance to post about it before, but it was great fun getting together with a big gang for dinner at Bertucci's on Monday, as organized by [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit. I've always had "Italian Family Envy," so outings like this are a good substitute for la famiglia Sunday dinners.

An interesting thing happened -- our waitress got fired in the middle of her shift. We didn't see it happening; halfway through the staggered deliveries of the meals, we became aware of a very hapless waiter in place of our waitress, doing his best but being unprepared for a party of 12 (or more?) whose orders he hadn't been familiar with. It was from him that we found out she'd been sacked on the spot. This of course set us to speculations -- what did she do that merited being fired mid-shift with a huge party under her care? Turns out the lesson learned was "Don't make personal phone calls whilst your orders are coming up on your waitshift at Bertucci's." Duly noted!

Tonight [livejournal.com profile] pheromone and I have a girly night, first to a cosmetics sampling event and then dress shopping. We both need new frocks for a big wedding coming up. I'm really crossing my fingers that I find something, because it's either that or wear something I already own, which would be most un-fun. For shoes, I'll have to make a separate trip to Teddy's in Central Square where me and all the other drag queens get our EEE-wide fancy shoes. But but hopefully there's a formal gown waiting for me tonight somewhere in the racks we'll haunt.

I love them all. I used to ride my bike to this one. Good food, indeed.

Italian Family Envy? Heh, want my 30-something cousins? (and I don't mean they're 30 something years old, I mean that's how many there are, not including second cousins and once removed whatever).

When I was growing up, I had a friend across the street whose family was Italian-From-Italy. The entire extended clan had moved over together. They had enormous Sunday dinners that I was sometimes invited to, with "exotic" foods I'd never heard of like lasagne and ravioli. I had hardly any cousins and the few I did have I only saw once a year or so, so I never got the experience of a familial clan while growing up. I had to make my own clan (of friends) when I was an adult. Looking back, I would have loved to have that as a kid.

I less-than-three Teddy Shoe. Any store that has shoes too big even for me has a special place in my heart.

I love them for having any shoe I want in wide. In most shoe stores, only a few styles come in wide, and I have to go a size up, making them too long. Teddy's rocks. :-)
