You go, Hugo!

I don't always agree with him on things, but I can sure get behind him on this:

[Boston Metro] The word "devil" was uttered no fewer than eight times during Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's address to the U.N. General Assembly yesterday. In each case, he meant it to describe one man -- President Bush.

"Yesterday the devil came here," Chavez said, referring to Bush's address before the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday. "Right here. Right here. And it smells of sulfer still today, this table that I am now standing in front of." He then made the sign of the cross, brought his hands together as if praying and looked up at the ceiling.

Now this is a time when I can enthusiastically cheerlead his patented drama queenery. Well emoted, and the whole smell-of-sulfer image is an instant classic. He said more:

[CNN.com] Chavez: "As the spokesman of imperialism, he came to share his nostrums to try to preserve the current pattern of domination, exploitation and pillage of the peoples of the world. An Alfred Hitchcock movie could use it as a scenario. I would even propose a title: 'The Devil's Recipe.'"

Thank you, Mr. Chavez! You deserve all the podium time you want on this topic.

I forget where I read this, but somebody proposed that the US should invade and conquer Venezuela and make it the 51st state, which would make George W. Bush (who is the subject of my userpic for this comment) happy, and then we could all vote for Hugo Chávez for U.S. President in 2008, which would make the American people happy, and it would be a win-win situation.

Personally I'm a big fan of Chavez's over-the-top theatrics, and am delighted to see them applied to Shrub. I'll bet the Assembly enjoyed it just as much.

Your icon is perfect -- a taxidermied chimp in Napoleon's clothes does indeed aptly represent our president. :-)

They had an AP picture of Chavez on the front page of the Metro today, holding a Noam Chomsky book.

I can only hope the picture was specially calculated so as to send as many neocons as possible into fits of dehabilitating apoplexy.

He's a very savvy fellow, he's working on driving a wedge in the UN between the charter members. I agree, Bush is a lousy president. And it was very clever of Chavez to quote Noam Chomsky in his lecture. He's a very smart guy. But I'm not quite ready for socialism just yet.

The US is a mess, this guy is the politician's politician and plans to make the most of it. I agree in the nomenclature, I just don't like the guy saying it.

I can assure you, via some contacts I have, that Bush is not, in fact, the devil. Or any other sort of supernatural entity for that matter. Like many of the petty-fools that have been in his situation before him, he will soon be gone, and will be but a footnote in the joke book of history, if remembered at all.
