After reading a movie review post today from [livejournal.com profile] derspatchel that mentioned Netflix, I decided it was high time I joined Netflix, since sweet [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit bought me a new DVD player. But first, I clicked on a link to an unrelated article posted by [livejournal.com profile] weegoddess in the poly_boston community. When I did, an ad for Netflix popped up. It was fate!

So, now that I'm in, would you all suggest a movie or two you think I might like?

Well...one nice thing about Netflix is that you can search by director. So if you wanted, say, a Christopher Guest marathon, it's just a couple clicks away.

Another nice thing is their BBC collection. Have you seen 'Coupling'?

Hmmm, haven't seen coupling, but now that 2 of you have suggested it, I'll have to look into it. :-)

BTW, when's the next chocolate shindig?

You know, that's a very good question? Last I heard from the owner of the space, she was on her way to Vegas for her birthday. When I tried to contact her today, her e-mail account was down.

I'm sure those two things aren't related.

Anyhow. Yes, Coupling, though it'll have a couple points where you'll probably be yelling "Just admit you're poly, damnit!" at the screen. Have you seen the Miyazaki films? Or the high-quality premium cable series like 'Weeds' and 'The Wire'? (If you haven't seen The Wire yet, omg you have GOT to.)

Hi, there. Erik, Katie's boyfriend, here. We met at dim sum. BTW, I'm adding you as an LJ friend, and if you feel so inclined. . . :-)

Anyway, I'll re-suggest "Coupling," as it's fantastic, and Netflix should have all 4 series (seasons, to us Americans).

I guess it depends on how your tastes run, but Netflix has a great feature where you can have Netflix Friends, and then you can see what's on their queue and their ratings of movies. If you e-mail me at erikzane AT yahoo DOT com your Netflix username, I'll add you as a friend and then you can see what I'm watching and what I like. At the very least, that'll give you some fresh ideas if we have been wandering in different movie circles.

However, I do have one director I would always suggest, if you can handle subtitles: Akira Kurosawa. The guy was a genius, IMHO.

Anyway, happy watching!

Cool! I added you back!

I didn't know Netflix had a friending program. I'll look into that. :-)

Actually, it appears I can paste a link. . . :-) I'm going to make a post to my journal, friends only, with that link. . .

I love Kurosawa. (And Bergman.)

I don’t know if you’d like Beau Geste, among other reasons because I haven’t seen it myself, but Greencine doesn’t seem to have it, so I’d love to watch it with you if you can get it from Netflix.

About to come see you, love!

I can recommend few films more than Robert Duvall's The Apostle. That I find myself raving about a film that focuses on evangelical Christianity in the Deep South is apparently one of life's little ironies, but trust me that this is an actor's movie. It's also a profoundly complex and beautiful rumination on the difficulties and glories of faith. I love it, and I hope you will too.

Dancer in the Dark -- starring Bjork. But it has been described as "a movie to break your heart," so may the buyer beware.
