Tuesday after Diesel, I had an extremely fun dinner with [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit, [livejournal.com profile] joyeous, [livejournal.com profile] barodar, and our new friend Damon (don't know if he's on LJ, but vee haf vays of making heem join). I'd never had an actual full meal at The Burren before, and in fact I keep forgetting that it's ever anything but a hangout for Tuft's kids. Yummy food and great company, and best fries evAR. (which would be "chips" in the UK, but the menu called them fries). Damon gave Wabbit and me a ride to my house, since it was as cold as the Kuiper Belt. Having access to a Wabbit in winter is a thing to be most thankful for. :-)

On Wednesday, I came home to a mysterious package from my mother. It was narrow and almost 4 feet long, and I couldn't imagine what it might be. Upon opening it, I got the awesome surprise of:

The Women Writers Umbrella!

Isn't that cool? Jane Austen, Mary Shelly, Emily Dickinson... I hadn't been expecting a gift since it's nowhere near my birthday or anything, and I called to thank her. She said she just saw it in a paper catalogue and though I would like it. I definitely do. My Mommy rocks!

Last night, [livejournal.com profile] vanguardcdk and I got an all-too-rare visit from [livejournal.com profile] jimmystagger. There needs to be an army of Jimmystaggers so that everyone can have one. Ostensibly he'd come over so I could help him revamp his OKCupid profile (which we'd originally scheduled for Monday but I was still under the weather), but mostly he just treated me and CDK to The Inimitable Jim Show. We barely had to talk at all -- Jimmy has enough stories to keep 10,000 campfires entertained. And we found punk rock personals! Ladies, look for him there once his new photos are taken!

It is an interesting place that can be very fun. I was there last night for dinner and the band with co-workers. 1/2 way through dinner the back room door opened and people started streaming out of there. We are not sure if there was an early show, or some kind of meeting. It was kind of odd to see 50+ people leaving all at once.

They do rent that back space out for various private functions. Possibly someone booked a big group dinner or private cocktail hour there. I just checked their website. They don't even charge a room fee, just a $15 per person food minimum. Must keep that in mind -- now that I think of it, it would be a good place for a cast party if no one's house was available. :-)

Note to [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit: Their brunch menu has that terrifying "Black Pudding" that you like! :-)

What is "terrifying Black Pudding"?

It's definitely not just for Tufties... there's also the cadre of Local Genuine Irishfolks, of course. My jovial Irish upstairs neighbors are there just about every night!

If you have any tips on writing good OkCupid profiles, I'd love to hear them!! I might be able to incorporate them into the "How to Write a Good OkCupid Profile" survival guide thingy I'm writing for Thursday...

Having access to a Blossom who uses phrases like “as cold as the Kuiper Belt” is also a thing to be most thankful for! Love you, sweetie!

And yes, it was an excellent dinner with excellent company!

If it had been any colder, I would have had to say Oort Cloud instead. :-)

Love you too, sweetie! *kiss*

Roxanne and I used to eat at the Burren pretty often, definitely liked it. Fortunately we have a place in the new 'hood with a similar vibe (other than it not being in the middle of Davis!)

Damon does have a lj account, but I think he said he hadn't used it yet or didn't remember what it was or something like that. We'll have to remember to ask him for it again. I actually don't even know his email, but I'm sure you do, so please bug him! He is like the nicest person evAR (next to you and Jay of course)! :-)
