Don't ask how a simple Google search for ink jet toner led me far afield to a website that sells bulk Mardi Gras beads. And don't ask how long I spent gazing in simian fascination at all teh pretty, shiny beads. And don't even try to comprehend the temptation of all those sparkly beads that cost less than a penny per strand when bought in bulk, and the newfound knowledge that the $24 that I very routinely spend on restaurant meals could instead purchase 700 lovely strings of colorful and festive Mardi Gras beads, which is basically enough beads to cover oneself in the bathtub. But then what would you do with them?

Eventually I made my way back to the path of righteousness and purchased ink jet toner, as planned.

Mardi gras party! Hey, it would even be an excuse for us to wear those masks again!

I love those masks! I also have a new one that Jay gave me. Might have to think about this for next Mardi Gras! :-)

As long as it's a Tuesday, does it really matter *which* Tuesday? Why wait!

Not to be *that* liberal, but you should probably see the documentary about the teeny Cambodian girls who string those beads before you start buying 'em. It's...disturbing.

Even the cheap throw beads? (they're entirely machine made, molded onto the string rather than strung)

The movie's Mardi Gras: Made in China. I lied: the little girls are Chinese, not Cambodian. Either way, they make $1.20 a day. The film's been criticized for downplaying the American businessmen who import the beads and emphasizing the women flashing for the 'em. Still, it's pretty disturbing. The factory owners are quoted as saying that they employ women because they're easier to bully; and then you get images of American women flashing their tits for the beads. It hurt.
