I went downtown again today for more PowerPoint training, which I'll be needing for my new job. It was a hole in my skills set mainly because for the past 8 years I'd been working for not-very-PowerPointy companies. Every day when I had downtime, I had nagging thoughts that I should use the time to hone my ragged PowerPoint abilities, but you know how that goes when teh interwebs are so handy.

Luckily, I've been able to do the tutorials for free this week at PSG. Since I already know Word and Excel quite well, it's not hard to pick up. I can't say I have leet skillz just yet, but I could put together a respectable presentation now, with animations, even. (I could also do non-respectable presentations, if you've a need :-)) On Sunday I'm going down to finish off the advanced tutorial. Looking forward to rolling with it on the new job. But alas, I don't think I'll ever be as great a PowerPointer as Al Gore.

Yay for PP

I have a degree from a technical community college, received back in 1997. Power Point was just beginning at that point in time but I didn't take the class. Of course, it has come a long way since then but still---I wish I had those skills. Glad you're picking it up!

I find that knowing other MS Office applications makes it much easier. Most of the commands and icons are the same. It would have taken longer if I were unfamiliar with the Office suite. If you ever do need to use it, you'll probably find you can navigate it with just a little self-training.

Not that this is important, actually I'm mostly typing this in as a joke, but given that Al Gore is part of the Board of Directors for Apple, Inc., I doubt very much that Steve Jobs would allow Gore to be caught dead with anything other than a Macintosh. Which means that while he *might* be using PowerPoint, I'm more willing to bet that he's using Keynote instead. ;-)
