Our luggage was safely returned to [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit's doorstep, so now the tale can be told of...

On the first day, our jet lag was fierce and we were in bed earlier than even the old ladies playing the slots. And slots there were -- I'd never seen a slot machine with my own eyes before, and there are probably as many slot machines as people in Las Vegas. Non-gambler me was pleased to see penny and nickel slot machines, so I knew I could participate in the fun without risking so much as a whole quarter. :-)

We met up with Tigris and had a nice, low key dinner. Somewhere in between dinner and a late buffet brunch the next day, romantic antics ensued (you know us ;-)).

Out of curiosity, we visited an oxygen bar in the hotel. The jury is still out as to whether we felt any difference after the oxygen treatment, but it was certainly pleasant. Later in the day, we headed to Circus Circus to frolic. [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit has leet Skeeball skillz! He won adorable fluffy chicken puppets for all three of us (we named them Tandoori, Cordon Bleu, and Pot Pie) and Beanie Babies for Tigris and me.

We sort of drank dinner (well, I did) and I took a nap while Wabbit did interwebs until it was time to go see Bite in one of the hotel's theaters. We enjoyed the saucy review, but I can say with firm conviction that vampires and 70s Southern rock do not mix. I'd love to choose a new soundtrack for them featuring more appropriate classical and goth tracks.

Tigris had to catch her flight home to Hawaii, and after saying goodbye we headed over to the Star Trek Experience. What glorious geekster fun! We Trekked-out in the museum, and rode both virtual reality rides (the rides were Klingon and Borg, respectively, and the lower-tech Klingon ride was actually the better of the two, we thought).

We then hopped the monorail and had a chance to explore some of the other resorts at the other end of The Strip. I have to say, next time I would choose somewhere other than The Stratosphere. It towers over the seedy northernmost end of The Strip, most of the staff was surly, and it lacks the distinctive personalities that other resorts have in spades -- the carnivalesque festivity of Circus Circus, the unapologetic glamour of the MGM, the old-school charm of the Sahara, where we enjoyed our most memorable meal of the trip. New York, New York gets an A+ for effort in trying to recreate a New York state of mind (deciduous trees, even!), and for having a delightful Irish-American pub where we quenched our thirst with a pint, al fresco. Even the Hilton has its gambling floor all decked out to match their Star Trek attraction. We only got to see Luxor and Paris Las Vegas from the outside, but maybe next time we can explore them.

The dry air was a true treat. The temperature was in the 90s, but in the absence of humidity, you hardly feel it. That was a lovely highlight to the culture shock. The day was over before we knew it, and we went to bed in preparation for our 4:00 AM wake-up call (which was Christina Aguilera urging us to buy tickets to the star-impersonators show in the hotel's other theater).

Then came Teh Very Awful Return Trip, which you already know about. But our luggage eventually made it to Boston, so all is well again.

I never thought I'd have a reason to visit Las Vegas. Now, I have no reason not to go back. :-) Mum's the word...
