Tired but happy -- that's how [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit and I ended up each evening this past weekend as we celebrated a year of loving each other. I couldn't have asked for more joy.

On Friday we met up at the restaurant in Chinatown where we'd had our first date. We had more delicious food than we knew what to do with, but we had a T ride and enough to carry as it was, so we had it packed up and left it near the T entrance for whoever might want it (there were thoughts about "unattended package" so we opened it to show it had food inside). Then we headed out to his house for coziness.

In the morning, after a big breakfast at a favorite Quincy diner and a few errands, we spent the better part of the afternoon doing beautification of Jay's yard. This was so nice, and something we'd never done together before. He'd bought me the cutest sun hat with a blue ribbon to tie under my chin, and I wore it while weeding as he cut the grass with his blessedly quiet non-power mower. We listened to NPR, and simply enjoyed working on something together.

After showering off, we headed to the North End with dinner in mind. We detoured first through Haymarket as it was winding down its day. Believe it or not, neither of us has ever gone to market there. We decided we'd make a point of doing that soon.

The first restaurant we passed turned out to be the one we chose; Mother Anna's. The weather was perfect for dining outdoors, and even my sun aversion was accommodated by the shade of another table's big umbrella. No matter -- the sun was sinking anyway and we feasted on tortellini and fettucine alfredo, stuffed mushrooms, garlic bread, and wine. Absolutely wonderful. It was so nice that Jay decided to call his parents in Illinois and bring them in on the fun. I got to talk to both of them for the first time! Such lovely people -- I can't wait to meet them in person.

We rolled back to my place, tired and full enough that rolling really would have been more efficient locomotion that walking. On my balcony, I mused "I wish we had an outdoor mattress and baby bottles of ice water." He added icy foot-soaks to the wish. We are nothing if not epic romantics. :-)

The morning saw us once again breakfasting heartily, this time at The Broken Yolk. Then Jay headed off to the Esplanade (sadly missing the gang that was spending the afternoon there) while I headed home for general self-care and to catch up with chores. We met up again at the home of M and B (sorry for no LJ links; I'm about to be late for work) for Tom's merry birthday celebration. It was a lovely cap to an incredible weekend.

I love you, sweetie (AKA Mocha Cupcake). Thank you for being who you are, and for loving who I am.
:-)

This is a wonderful post. By the way, this is Rachel. I added you as a friend, if you don't mind. The blond and I had such a good time getting to know you on Sunday.
