There's nothing healthy to eat in the neighborhood where I work. Not that I always opt for the healthy choice anyway, but I'd been patting myself on the back for regularly enjoying a Taco Bell Fiesta Taco Salad for lunch. If you scramble the letters of FIESTA TACO SALAD, it spells MOST DELICIOUS SALAD EVAAAAR IN THE HISTORY OF ALL SALAD (you have to use the silent letters in order to get that anagram). Salad=healthy, right?

Turns out those bad boys have 840 calories each! That's 2/3rds of a day's calorie needs for me in one fast food item! Since working in this neighborhood I've eaten about 25 of them. Whoops.

According to Taco Bell's nutrition calculator, you can lop it down to 390 calories by not eating the shell. That's more like it. But no shell?

Life is everything but fair.

There at least used to be a salad-bar place in the Galleria food court called Damon's. No longer?

That's gone, along with my beloved Arby's. Now there is Dunkins, Au Bon, some bad faux French sandwich shop, another Mex place, a Japanese place, TB, Burger King, Cajun place, Thai place, Chinese place, Indian place, sushi kiosk, Freshen smoothie kiosk, upstairs a pretzel stand, and down at the other end, California Pizza Kitchen and The Cheesecake Factory.

Not bad for a mall, really, but I get tired of it day after day. Time to start packing lunch sometimes.

I miss the Arby's. Although the Samosas (sp?) at the Indian place are very tasty. Mmmmm....

I get those sometimes. Of course we pick the Indian treat with the least nutritional value!

It *may* make you feel better to know that if you don't know you're consuming the calories, they don't count. Of course, now that you know, you're kind of screwed :(

Also, if you don't eat the last bite, none of the calories count. :-)

I was curious so I looked up the calories of everything on Taco Hell's indigestible menu, and I see the Fiesta Taco Salad has more calories than anything else... more even than their steak burrito. Weird! (And what the heck are they making the shell out of? Nevermind...I really don't want to know! :/ )

I'm eating the yummy salad righth now at my desk, minus the shell. It's still tasty and I don't have to feel guilty for just 390 calories. :-)

And you could even eat just a small amount of that shell without too much guilt. :-)

I'll have to wait until I get home since Youtube is blocked at work, but I'll look forward to watching it (though something tells me I'll regret it!)

As I don't watch TV, I only knew that one from the radio commercial. Which is exactly like that, only without the visuals. You don't lose much -- it's almost entirely in the audio, anyway.

And, yes, that was EXACTLY where my mind went, too.

[Re-posting comment because I forgot to use the correct userpic.]

Do they have a fridge you can use at work? If so, you could do what I just started doing at work and instead of actually packing a lunch, just bring in stuff to make a lunch with. (Well, OK, in my case that’s peanut butter, jelly, and bread, but it could also be cold cuts, cheese, and bread, or a bag of salad greens, some olives, grated cheese, and dressing.)

Or I could just cook stuff for you to take in. Then you’d get a week’s worth of calories in your lunch. :-)

(Waitaminnit, you’re saying you should only be eating 1200-1300 calories a day? I didn't know a human could live on that!)

Some human beings can. The caloric needs of humans vary from as few as 800 calories at the extreme end to 2500 or more, depending on size, metabolism, activity level, and probably other stuff that we don't even know about.

Awwwww, I love when you cook for me. Enjoying your food at work makes me feel like you're there with me. :-) *kiss*

Funny thing, I just bought peanut butter to keep at the office this morning. See [livejournal.com profile] ka9sqb's LJ for my idea for breakfast-on-a-stick. It gave me an intense craving for peanut butter!

And yep, 1200-1400 calories a day is just the right amount for me. I'm little (padded, but little) and my metabolism is slow even on the most active days. Right around that range is right for me.
