WaterFire Weekend
Sep. 3rd, 2007 12:02 pmA full weekend, much of it spent in the cozy company of
beowabbit.
Saturday evening saw us at beautiful WaterFire. This is one of my favorite places to be in summer/autumn, and I can't think of a more breathtaking and romantic environment. We met up with some other folks, mostly new to me, a bit north of Providence, and spent the evening strolling and enjoying the fires. I wasn't quite ready to leave when the group did, so I convinced a very sleepy Wabbit to stay on for a bit longer. The ride home seemed very quick, and we both slept to prolific and vivid dreams. Not surprising, given the sensory stimlus of WaterFire. There are 4 more left this year, and I highly recommend it for anyone within reach of Providence.
beowabbit made us pancakes in the morning, which we had on his back deck. In his car, we had left a pair of cinnamon brooms we'd bought before WaterFire (these are rustic straw brooms infused with intense cinnamon oil fragrance). By the time we loaded up to go to
pheromone's barbeque, his car smelled like a luscious rolling bake shop! A broom will go in each of our kitchens.
The barbeque was lovely (Thank you,
pheromone and
warlord_mit!). Homemade ice cream was the order of the day and I tasted several very good offerings, but the real treat for me was the ripe Concord grapes available for eating right off the vine. I delighted in several small bunches and had to restrain myself from eating more. When I think of how long I've lived in this house, I could have planted grapevines and already had several seasons of grapes by now. I always thought I wouldn't be living here long enough for the vines to mature. Maybe next year I'll try it.
Today is Labor Day, and fittingly, I'm going to do some labor around the house. Good to see so many faces this weekend!
