Last night Beckie asked me who it was she'd seen me lunching with at Diva on Sunday. It was nobody you'll be hearing more about, as it happened. I've met many fascinating, fun people on CraigsList, but this just wasn't one. Unlike most, whom I met through my CraigsList activity group, this was an actual "date," and before long I was wishing it wasn't.

E-mail chemistry bears absolutely no connection to face-to-face chemistry, or the lack thereof. He was unkind to our waiter (an automatic strikeout in my book), was very judgemental difficult to converse with, and hadn't taken care of his teeth (don't call me superficial on that -- it's as important to health as it is to aesthetic ends). I was far more captivated with my plate of Indian goodies than with my dining partner. I paid for the meal since I'd asked that we meet in my neighborhood. I generally pay the bill when I don't plan to see someone again.

Thank you for playing, please sign the guestbook on your way out.

The Murder In The Cathedral read-thru was exciting. Of the cast of 24, I only know 8, all the others being new colleagues and hopefully friends. There was a crackling energy in the room, aided by the crisp autumn coolness in an assembly of people raring to go. Many are new to theatre or are prodigal sons and daughters of the stage returning after years of absence. The chorus has a staggering number of lines. This will be my biggest T@F challenge yet.

Thanks! Ah well, it happens. At least he didn't bust any sexual moves, so the date doesn't rank in Hall of Shame for bad dates. Just really forgettable.

"Please sign the book on your way out the door. That will be all. If she needs you, she'll call, but I don't think that's likely somehow..."

Sorry, couldn't resist the urge to sing. What I *meant* to say was:

Diva is TASTY. Yum. You should go.

Now you've got me started. :-)

Helmand is an Afghan restaurant on First Street in Cambridge (near the intersection with Binney St., across from what used to be the Lotus building (is it IBM now?). It's got wonderful atmosphere and great food.

Aush (which is oddly typo'd on the website as "Ah") is a hearty beef soup with noodles and yogurt (no, really, it's delicious). There is also a vegetarian version called "aushak" that I think uses eggplant instead of beef and is also quite delicious.

One thing I really enjoy is their side dishes. It's great to go with a group and order all the sides and get to try them all. Wonderful spinach! And the pumpkin is divine.

And the owner is the brother of Hamid Karzai, the current President of Afghanistan.

Seconded on the kaddo. Some foodie friends of mine have been trying for years to replicate it at home. They're getting closer, but we still wind up having to eat at Helmand a lot. :)

(Mare, found your journal through the Theatre@First member list; do you mind if I add you to my friends list?)

Over the years we've talked to him several times. The place is across the street from my elder sister's condo, so we used to go there quite frequently.
