This sounds insane, but I wish I could have a 5-day vacation to do housework. Not just cleaning, but gutting and culling that is years overdue. When you live in the same house for ten years, Stuff Builds Up. I need to completely gut the deep kitchen closet and throw out the stinky carpet and tons of cardboard boxes that have collected in there. My bedroom closet needs going through and the things I never wear need to be culled. Same with the bathroom shelves, where there are cosmetics that are older than some of my friend's school-age children.

Maybe I will look into taking a Thursday/Friday off, which would give me a day each for kitchen, living room, bathroom and my bedroom. I just don't want to go into the winter months with all of this junk tucked into every available space.

I know what you mean. A couple of years ago I used the four day Thanksgiving holiday to CLEAN and organize. My only family was out of the country so it made it easy. I've been so busy my place is a sty. Sad.

This sounds like a project for [livejournal.com profile] anotherjen, whom you may have met at the Davis Sale or one of the bar meetups.

I was thinking the same! although, it sounds like PTB has a pretty good handle on what to do and how to do it, she just needs to make the *time*.

Yeah, I know what needs to go, I just need time to do it. I'm not a night owl and am pretty toast at the end of a workday. Weekends are generally booked unless I make a conscious effort to keep them clear. So taking a few vacation days makes the most sense.

I found that having a friend with my while cleaning out my closet was a lot more fun.

Good luck with the project sounds like you will be much happier once purged.

Good for you! I just made an entry about spring and fall housecleaning on my LJ. I find it pays to go over the place thoroughly now and then. More room, less accident prone, much less clutter.

And less cat mess! I've had a BIG problem this summer with cat litter odor, because the litter is in that crowded kitchen closet and I think all the cardboard and junk has absorbed the smell and is amplifying it. I'm really looking forward to getting that dealt with.

I use Fresh Step (non clumping). I scoop the "poop" and flush it, and change the entire box every fourth day. As you know I live in a one-room, but no one EVER smells "cat" in my apartment. That Fresh Step commercial that shows a frantic cat aided by a bloodhound trying to find his litter box does not lie.
By the way, I keep the litter box in the bathroom, which I feel is appropriate, dont you? And by the way, there is no window in my bathroom, yet odor is not an issue.
In the past I used many other kinds of litter with or without baking soda or other deodorizers, but to no avail.
This one works.
