Day 4 without caffeine. I wasn’t sure how my body would respond, having been a daily caf-head since high school. I didn’t know if it was an actual chemical addiction, or simply a behavioral addiction to having a hot beverage in the morning. I see now it was both. I’ve soothed the hot beverage jones with a coffee-substitute product misleadingly called Cafix, which contains no caffeine (unlike "decaf" coffee, which has traces of it). It doesn’t taste like coffee, but it’s brown and its hot, and I can add cream and pretend its coffee.

The withdrawal from caffeine hasn’t been terrible. In fact I haven’t even chewed all the way through to my wrist bones yet.

The worst symptom is a constant craving for evil foods. I guess the caffeine had some kind of appetite suppressant quality, because suddenly I want to eat things like houses and cars. It makes me crave not just food, but bad food like McDonald’s. All I want is grease, sugar, and salt. This morning I was looking at a bag of cheese curls in my kitchen and thinking what a swell breakfast it would be (the whole bag, not just a few). I didn’t eat them.

Sigh, back to my wrist. *gnaw*

However, yaaay! We're released at 1:30 PM from work today, and have Monday off. A fun 3.5 day min-vacation lies ahead.

I have to (just for 6 months) for this herbal thing I'm doing. Caf cancels out the benefitial effects of the herbs.
